On Clear Ice

When Wisconsin Public Television graphic designer Jennifer Hadley took her daughter out to skate and watch ice boats racing on Madison’s Lake Mendota, she was amazed out how clear the ice was. She put together this video incorporating some amazing images she shot with some commentary from lake expert UW Emeritus Professor John Magnuson.

Our lakes are worlds unto themselves, but when one becomes covered with a roof of ice nearly two feet thick, it takes on an isolation and beauty that few are brave enough to ever see first hand.

Producer Aubrey Ralph followed a group of local divers as they do just that.
