Named Wisconsin’s first great scientist, Increase Lapham was a self-taught renaissance man who dabbled in the fields of botany, archaeology, forestry and climatology. Two hundred years after his birth (March 7th) his influence is still being felt in our state. That is, if you know how to “Look for Lapham.”

Thousands of skiers will take to the trails this weekend for the legendary American Birkebeiner. It’s the largest cross country ski marathon in North America, running 50 kilometers from Cable to Hayward, Wisconsin.
